      John died suddenly as the result of a heart attack, at his home, on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. He was 74. As in life, he died surrounded by the love and presence of his best friend and soulmate of 43 years, Anna (Roth).

      He will be lovingly remembered by his family; dear brother James "Jim" Heldmann and his wife Barbara of Waterloo and their family; nephews Stephen Heldmann and his special friend Yumee Choi and Mark Heldmann and his special friend Tiffanie Ting. Anna's family were also very special to John; brother-in-law Michael Roth and his wife Melodie of Kitchener; niece Julianne Roth and her husband Brent Hergott and their children Jack and Matthew Hergott; nephew Michael Roth and his wife Fiona and their children Kaitlyn, Molly Matthew; brother-in-law Henry Roth and his wife Betty Jane of Kitchener; niece Christine and her husband Andrew Gibbons and their children Henry and Charlie; nephews Stephen Roth and his wife Dale Hobbs and their children Russell and Lauren; Jeffrey Roth and his wife Brigitte and their children Evan and Mandy; Eric Roth; and Tim Roth and his wife Pamela.

      John was predeceased by his parents, Marion (Cress) and Henry J. Heldmann as well as his mother and father-in-law Anna and Michael Roth.

      He was a life long faithful member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Kitchener. For r nearly twenty-five years he was the Personnel Director at K-W Hospital and following retirement, joined the family business, Cress Laboratories Ltd. as. President. Along with a very special group of friends, John celebrated 48 years as a member of "The Dads" on January 6, 2007. He was a graduate of Columbia University, New York City.

      Friends are invited to share their memories of John with his family at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate John's life and faith will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Kitchener on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Malina officiating. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the church for refreshments and a time to visit. A private family committal service will follow at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener.

      Condolences for the family and donations to St. Matthews Lutheran Church Foundation or HopeSpring would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be arranged through the funeral home.

      In living memory of John, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
