  The Union Hotel. When travellers come to Hawksville it is not the case with them here like it is in a good many villages they visit, get through with their business as quick as possible and leave in a hurry on account of inferior hotel accommodation. The above hotel is now conducted by Mr. Michael Meyer, the present proprietor, who was born on a farm in Wilmot, near Wellesley village, in 1868 where he was reared to manhood. He was married to Miss Carry Weber, of Williamsburg, in 1896. She is a sister of Mr. Valentine Weber, merchant, of Berlin. They took charge of the Union Hotel two years ago last May. This is Mr. Meyer's first venture in the hotel business, but he has the knack of one old in experience. He is of an exceedingly jovial and good-natured disposition and what is especially agreeable to the tired and hungry traveller is his desire to make his patrons feel at home while sojourning beneath his roof. As far as I am able to see and learn this house is conducted in as quiet and orderly a manner as any other village hotel in Waterloo county. The sleeping apartments are kept scrupulously clean and tidy, and the weary traveller who cannot indulge in a comfortable and undisturbed sleep during the night is not in a sound physical condition. The dining room is also inviting, the tables being always supplied with food served up in first-class style and in abundance. Mrs. Meyers is an expert in the culinary department and invariably succeeds in pleasing her guests in the way of wholesome and palatable food. This house has a large patronage, more than the ordinary run of village hotels. They have two interesting little daughters, who are as sunshine to guests who have little ones at home.
