    • Passing Of A Pioneer.

      With the sudden passing away with heart failure of Mr. Solomon G. Stone at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Philip Honsinger, of New Liskeard, early last Friday morning, Wallenstein loses one of its few remaining links with pioneer times. The late Mr. Stone was born near Bond Head seventy-eight years ago last October. He was the fifth of a family of seven born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Abijah Stone, who came here from Gwillenburg township some seventy-seven years ago and were among the earliest pioneers to carve out a home from the then woodland wilderness of "Queen's Bush." On this home the late Mr. Stone spent most of his life until he retired and moved into Hawkesville. Later, however, he homesteaded in Alberta, but during the last few years he has been residing with members of his family in Ontario. His wife, formerly Miss Alice Wiles predeceased him about twenty-seven years ago. His two brothers and four sisters have also predeceased him. Surviving are five sons, Henry of Guelph, Allen of Norwich and Harvey, Lovel and Hazell of Alberta; and five daughters, Mrs. Webb Lambert (Clara) of Stratford, Mrs. Harold Hillier (Maud) of Toronto, Mrs. Philip Honsinger (Lottie) of New Liskeard, Mrs. Earl Edwards (Della) of Milverton and Belva of Tyrone. A daughter, Mildred, passed away in early childhood. The remains were brought from New Liskeard to Guelph where services held at the home of his son, Mr. Henry Stone were conducted by Rev. Mr. Stuart of the United Church of that city, who also conducted the interment services at the largely attended funeral to the Hawkeville cemetery last Sunday afternoon.
