Linwood-ValentineR.Berlet-Home.jpg The picture was taken about 1903, based on the approximate ages of the girls in the picture. (my great aunts) V. R. Berlet was a tailor (b. 1857) who emigrated to Canada from Hessen Darmstadt, Germany (1871). He married Maria Spahr at Linwood in 1881.
The people I know on this picture are:
from left: girl standing on steps, Frieda Berlet (my grandmother), her mother Maria (Spahr) Berlet holding daughter Esther second man from left standing on steps in dark suit, Edward Berlet, son of Valentine and Maria Berlet, man in doorway with hands hooked in pockets, Valentine Berlet girls on balcony, from left are Irene, Elizabeth, May, Yetta Berlet, daughters of Valentine and Maria Berlet. Only child of Valentine and Maria missing is Adele, who was second oldest and was probably away at the time.
The building was located on the northwest corner of Manser Rd. and Ament Line (main intersection) in Linwood. In 1978, the Bank of Nova Scotia razed the house and business and put up their bank.
