- MRS. GEORGE MANSER - Mrs. Sarah Manser , of Linwood ,widow of the late Dr. George G. Manser, who is well known in the district , passed away at her home at 3:15 A.M. Sunday morning, Nov. 2 , 1952 in her 86th year. Mrs. Manser had been ailing since a stroke in April , although she was able to be up and around in her room until seven weeks ago when when she was confined to her bed.
The past 10 days she has been critically ill, suffering another stroke a week ago Monday. She was a great lover of flowers and enjoyed sewing. She made several beautiful quilts with the assistance of her daughter Jetret . The last surviving member of a family of 10, the former Sarah Hackett , daughter of the late William Hackett & Clarissa Astrope. She was born May 11, 1867 on the 13th line of Wellesley .
At age 20 she moved with her parents from the farm to Linwood. Seven years before her marriage , she was in charge of the dressmaking shop for the late W.O. Bundy, where Mr. Frank Schummer now operates a general store.
On June 27th 1894 she married Dr. George G. Manser in Linwood and she resides in Linwood since. Dr. Manser passed away Dec. 14 1937. Mrs. Manser was a member of the St. Andrew's United Church and formerly a member of the Linwood Methodist Church, before Union.
She was also a member of the Ladies Aid of St. Andrew's She was past president of the Linwood Women's Institute and always took an active interest in community affairs until her health failed.
Surviving is a daughter Jetret, at home. She was predeceased by 5 sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Fry ( Fanny ) Mrs. Thos.Ransome (Rachel ), Mrs. Alex Beggs (Clarissa ), Mrs. John Greenwood ( Elizabeth ) & Mrs. Henry Newton (Mary ) and 4 brothers Thomas, John ,Dr. Charles , & William. A funeral service was held from her late residence on Wed. afternoon. This was followed by a memorial service at St. Andrew's United Church, Linwood. Rev. Gordon Weir had charge of the service and was assisted by Rev. Walter Goos of St. Peter's Lutheran Church , Linwood. Internment Rush's Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Kenneth Beggs , Stuart Luckhart , Stanley Gordon , Clayton Edwards , Herbert Eby, & Ralph Schmitt.
