Last Saturday's column on plans to convert part of Kitchener's Barra Castle into a vocation school triggered a flood of memories, produced historical data, left questions unanswered and set the record straight on Harold Marquette's success as an aircraft builder.
Marquette was the only son of Molly Marquette, the first or one of the first owners of Barra an elegant, 15 unit apartment building at 399 Queen St., S. that looks like a castle.
Old-timers recall Marquette as "a pleasant fellow who could fix or build anything".
A self-taught aircraft engineer, eh built two airplances in the basement of Barra Castle and another in the backyard and garage of a house he later owned on Queen's Boulevard. .....
