Notes |
- Joshua Shoemaker, "was born April 20th, 1813, and came to Canada in 1829. He was married to Catherine Scheirich and lived in Wilmot Township, on the tract of land now owned by John and Moses K. Schneider. His father-in-law wanted him to purchase his farm, now owned by George Hiestand. He sold his farm in Wilmot Township and moved to John Scheirich's. After his wife's death he was married to Catherine Wildfong. After his second marriage he left the Scheirich farm and purchased the farm now owned by Peter Reist. Here he constructed a dam and erected a sawmill. On the evening of May 15th, 1840, while engaged in fishing at the dam, he fell off the raft and was drowned. He left a family of three children, one of whom was named John."
