- Golden Wedding
A unique but very happy family gathering occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Weismiller, in this village, on Saturday, the occasion being the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, which occurred on the 22nd January, 1855, in a log house which stood for many years on the river bank opposite Mr. E. E. Ratz' residence. Both had come from Germany about 1851, the bride, then Miss Sophia Holsshuh, settling near Linwood with her parents, and Mr. Weismiller coming almost direct to Wellesley, where the pair have lived continuously ever since their marriage. Mr. Weismiller is now 74 years of age and his wife 66. All of their children and eight of their ten grandchildren were present at the golden wedding celebration last Saturday, as follows: Mr. and Mrs. David Weismiller and their three children, Sydney, Lousa and Harry, of Toronto; Mrs. Thos. Lesparance (Sophia), Windsor; Mr. and Mrs. John Niebel (Philipina) and their son, Ellwood, Detroit; Mrs. Jos. Lesparance (Catherine) and son, Maurice, of Windsor; Mr. and Mrs. John Weismiller, and their children Willie and Marguerite, of Hensall; Miss Melinda Weismiller at home; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Happe, (nee Miss Clara Dahm) of Windsor. Other relatives present were Messrs. Fred and Sam'l Holshuh and their ladies, of North Wellesley, and Mr. and Mrs. Shaefer, of Heidelberg, Mrs. Weismiller's brothers and sisters. The golden wedding ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Helm, their pastor, after which the gathering sat down to the sumptuous dinner. Among the presents and tokens of love was a heavy purse of gold from the children. The family remained with their aged parents over Sunday visiting and renewing acquaintances with their childhood friends here. The entire community joins in extending congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Weismiller, who through their long residence here have always been held in the very highest esteem by all who knew them. Both are still in excellent health and we express the general sentiment in hoping they will be permitted to remain together in happiness and prosperity for many years to come.
