- John Lehman, 57 years of age, died at his home in this village at 5: 30 p. m. Saturday, July 25, after a linger illness of diabetes. He was senior member of the firm of Lehman & Zehr, who have conducted a sawmill here for the past few years. He was a stockholder and director of Croghan Nation Bank since its organization. He was also a member of the Croghan fire department. Mr. Lehman was born January 4, 1868, in New Bremen son of Peter and Catharine Widrick Lehman. December 25, 1890, he was united in marriage to Magdalene Kennel of Wellesley, Ontario and in 1906 moved to Aldrich where he acted as foreman in a lumber camp. The following year he came to Croghan and purchased a sawmill from Joseph Farney. In 1910 he purchased the sash and blind factor from the Virkler estate. In 1923 he entered into partnership with Benjamin Zehr in the Lehman-Zehr Lumber Company, which he conducted until his death. Besides his bereaved wife he is survived by one daughter Mrs. Benjamin Zehr and three grandchildren: five brothers, Christopher, Simon, Andrew of Beaver Falls: Donald and Joseph of this village: two sisters Mrs. Joseph Lehman of Kitchener, Ontario and Mrs. John A. Zehr of Beaver Falls. The funeral was held Tuesday at 9: 30 a. m. at the home and at 10: 30 at the Amish Mennonite church of which he was an active member. Rev. Michael Zehr of Pigeon, Mich. officiated at the ceremony. The five brothers acted as bearers. Mr. Lehman was one of the most prominent business men of the community and was always much interested in the welfare of the village. He leaves many friends who mourn his loss. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.1a
