- War Mementos
Mr. John Yanchus of the Steddick House, on Monday received a German steel helmet and gas mask, which was sent to him by his brother, Sapper Frank Yanchus, from France. He had previously received a cheveon (shoulder strap), a button from a German officer's uniform, German paper money in one or two mark notes, German coins, four rings, a Polish song book, two watches, a cigarette holder, match box, the ribbon from a German iron cross, a tassel worn by a German Uhlan, two linen handkerchiefs, a number of jewel cases looted from Lambert's Jewelry store in Valenciennes by the German soldiers. who left them on the battlefields during their retreat. Mr. Yanchus is pleased to show the collection to all who care to see them. Pte. Albert Brubacher has also sent several souvenirs to his father, Mr. Israel Brubacher, consisting of a German cap and wallet.
