Notes |
- Death of Adam Doering, Esq., Deputy-Reeve of Wilmot
We very much regret to announce the death of this esteemed gentleman, which took place at his residence at Philipsburg, in the township of Wilmot, on Tuesday morning last. It is now well known that Mr. Doering's illness was of but short duration. Thursday of last week he accompanied Mr. Joseph Kaiser, second Deputy Reeve, on an inspection of a bridge near Lisbon. He was then in his usual rugged health. That evening on reaching home he was taken with severe chills, which not passing off, medical assistance was sent for, when it was found that severe inflammation of the lungs had set in. Even then nothing serious was anticipated. When visited on Saturday by his friend Mr. Kaiser, he was lying on a lounge with every anticipation that in a few days he would be better. But it was not to be, mere serious symptoms developed themselves, until all hope was abandoned and he sank to his rest on Tuesday morning last. Mr. Doering will be much missed and long remembered in the Township of Wilmot: He had been a member of the Township Council for fifteen years, and of the County Council for the past four bringing to the discharge of his public duties the same thoroughness of purpose and integrity of life which characterized him in his large social circle. Mr. Doering was the son of Mr. Andrew Doering, who is still living. He leaves a widow and two brothers, viz.: Messrs. Abel and Andrew Doering, who reside at Philipsburg. He was the nephew of the late Christopher Doering. His funeral will take place at 10 o'clock on Saturday morning.
