- LORNE JOHANNES 1902-1984
Lorne Johannes was the youngest son of George Johannes, a blacksmith and the operator of the Blair general store. The family arrived in Blair in 1888 and Lorne Johannes was born on July 3, 1902. As a young man he followed his father into the blacksmith trade finally abandoning the business in 1926. He was the founder of the Blair Board of Trade and was instrumental in the cleanup and reorganization of the Blair Cemetery. He was the co-founder, with Dr. John Seaton, of both the Ontario Rural Softball Association in 1931, and the Ontario Rural Hockey Association. He is also remembered as the founder of the Blair Hornets softball team. Mr. Johannes worked for many years as the circulation manager of the Galt Evening Reporter and died on May 18, 1984. He is buried in Blair Cemetery.
