      CONESTOGO.-There passed away at his home here June 2nd, Valentine Gies in his 69th year. He was a prominent village blacksmith for over 40 years. In September, 1868, he married Margaret Holle of this village Who predeceased him in 1920. He remarried in 1922 to Caroline Shoemaker, who also predeceased him in 1932. Mr. Gies was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church, and had been a valued member of the church board and superintendent of the Sunday School for many years.

      Surviving are his son Herbert, of Conestogo and 5 grandchildren, five brothers, Philip, Kitchener, Henry, Hamilton, Louis, Rummelhardt, Albert, Cleveland, Ohio, August, Elgin, Ill., three sisters, Mrs. Julke, Preston, Mrs. J. Maier, and Mrs. J. Maynard, both of Hamilton.

      The funeral will be held from the late residence Sunday at 2.30 o'clock followed by a service at the Lutheran Church. Interment in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.
