    • Mrs. Jacob Schweitzer

      CONESTOGO - Following a siege of 5½ years of illness, Mrs. Jacob Schweitzer passed away at her home here early on Saturday morning, at the age of 70 years. The late Mrs. Schweitzer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fiddler, was born in Waterloo Township in July, 1869, and was married to her late husband in 1891. Mr. and Mrs. Schweitzer settled in Conestogo following their marriage, Mr. Schweitzer conducting a harnessmaker business for several years after which he acquired the hotel from his father bearing the family name and which under the new management became a province-wide famous tourist resort and during its 35 or so years in their possession was particularly noted for its excellent meals. Just prior to Mr. Schweitzer's death early in 1929, he had disposed of the hotel business but Mrs. Schweitzer continued to live here and enjoy the esteem of a large circle of friends. The late Mrs. Schweitzer is survived by one adopted son, Harry Fiddler, in Kitchener, two brothers and one sister, William in Kitchener, Henry in Grenfell, Sask., and Mrs. Wm. Heidlinger in Baden. The family's only child and son died in infancy. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from her late residence where a brief service was held, followed by the main service in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, of which the departed was a devout member and during which members of the Ladies' Aid, of which she had been an executive member for some years, sang several hymns. Interment was made in the family plot on the adjoining cemetery. Rev. S. J. Wittig was in charge of the service throughout.
