Notes |
- Death has removed another aged resident of this vicinity in the person of Valentine Doerbecker, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Menno L. Weber, on Tuesday evening at the advanced age of 86 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. The deceased was born in Germany, and came to this country at the age of 19, first settling in the city of Hamilton, where he followed the trade of shoemaker.
He then removed to Salem and later to North Easthope, where he was married to Barbara Oetzel and resided on a farm for a number of years. They subsequently moved to Elmira, and several years later became residents on the farm west of St. Jacobs, where he lived about 26 years. For the past year or so deceased made his home with his daughter named above. three sons and three daughters survive, namely: William, on the old homestead; Henry, near the old home; Edward, in Minneapolis; Mrs. Dan. Weber, near Listowel; Mrs. M.L. Weber, here, and Mrs. Martin Haist, East Zorra. Another daughter, Mrs. Henry Niebargal, died a few months ago. His wife died many years ago. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Rev. Kaatz[?], of the Evangelical church officiated.
