  John Schroder, "The family by this name are all descendants of John Schroder, a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he was born in 1802. About the year 1836 he emigrated to Canada and settled in Berlin, Ontario, where he was widely known by all parties. He was married to Mary, daughter of John and Polly (Heckedon) Haus. She was born a few miles west of Waterloo in 1818 and died in Berlin, at their old home on Queen Street East, November 14th, 1888. He died May 10th, 1887. To them was born a family of eight children. A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Burial today, Thursday afternoon in the Mennonite cemetery. The deceased had lived in Berlin for 65 years, or rather, he already lived here before Berlin came into being.
