- Crash takes life of Clarence Diamond
Former County Warden
A two-car crash 1 1/2 miles east of St. Agatha on Monday of last week claimed the life of former Waterloo County warden, Clarence Diamond, 62, of RR 1, New Hamburg.
The Waterloo fire department was called to remove Mr Diamond from his car. It took firemen 20 minutes to cut off the left side of the vehicle to reach him.
Both Mr. Diamond and Mrs. Phillip Biemaskie, 17, of 193 Wellington St., N., the driver of the other vehicle, were pronounced dead by coroner Dr. G.J. Christ.
Well known in this area, Mr Diamond was warden in 1965 and had served a total of 12 years in municipal politics, several of those as reeve of Wilmot Township.
He was a member of the Kitchener suburban roads commission since 1966 and chairman of the Wilmot Township Planning Board.
Mr. Diamond was also a former member of the Waterloo County area planning board and a director of the Wilmot Agricultural Society. He was a member of Bethel United Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Fallis, who is well known in farm and church circles; one son, Dr. Douglas, a veterinarian in Brampton; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Bruce (Beverley Anne) Cavanagh of Toronto.
He is also survived by two brothers, Vernon of Lafayette, Ind., and Maurice of RR 1, Plattsville.
Funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m at the Bethel United Church in Wilmot Township.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
The Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
