    • Florence Fallis was born in 1910 in Minto Township, Wellington County. After taking a secretarial course in Toronto, she moved to Wilmot Township, where she married Clarence Diamond.

      Bean rose to executive positions on the provincial and national level of the Women's Institute. She served as provincial public relations officer and was president of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario from 1977 to 1980. She took a leadership role in conferences of the Associated Country Women of the World.

      She was active in the Waterloo Farm and Home Safety Council, the Wilmot Agricultural Society, the Wilmot Horticultural Society, the Waterloo Historical Society, the Haysville Sunshine Club and was clerk of session for Zion United Church, New Hamburg.

      Bean was Haysville correspondent for the K-W Record for thirty years, having commenced her media career at radio station CFRB, Toronto. Honours include the Jubilee Medal and Wilmot Citizen of the Year 1990. She was widely known as "a good neighbour." She was married to Ellworth Bean.

      "Florence Bean, 81, of the Nithview Seniors Village, New Hamburg, formerly of Fairview St., and R.R.#1 New Hamburg, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Born in Minto Tp., she was a daughter of the lateWilliam Fallis and the former Melissa Millen. Her first husband, Clarence Diamond, died in 1969.

      She was a member of Zion United Church in New Hamburg and a member of the UCS of the church. She had also served in other capacities within the church. She was a member of Haysville Women's Institute, serving in various offices of the branch, and had also been the provincial president and public relations officer of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario. She was very interested in municipal affairs and was named Citizen of the Year in 1990. She had also served as a correspondent forthe KW Record and the New Hamburg Independent. Surviving are her husband, Ellworth Bean....a son, Douglas Diamond and wife Rosemary of Toronto; a daughter Beverly Diamond and husband Clifford Crawley of Toronto;stepdaughter Marilyn and husband Lynn Sararus of R.R.#1 New Dundee; stepson Wilfred Bean and wife Kathryn of Antigonish, N.S.; grandchildren, Douglas and Terry Diamond; step-grandchildren Jane Anne and David Sararus; brothers Murray Fallis and wife Ruth of Caledon East; Alan Fallis and wife Hazel of Brantford; sisters-in-law, Isabel Fallis of Harriston and Margaret Facey, of the Nithview Home, New Hamburg; also nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Graham Fallis and his wife Winnie, and James Fallis."
