Notes |
- Jacob Shupe, "was born June 19th, 1822. He was married, February 7th, 1849, to Sallie Ann Master who was born February 26th, 1833. They resided in Washington, Oxford County, for many years but at present reside in the town of Galt. Mr. Shupe in his younger days followed carpentering and building but now he is engaged as a pattern maker. His family consisted of two sons.."
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Death of Mr. Jacob Shupe
An aged and esteemed citizen passed away on Tuesday, in the person of Jacob Shupe, of Victoria Avenue. Fifteen years had the deceased lived in Galt, his former home being in Preston and during that time he gained the respect and regard of all who knew him. He was for many years an employee of the Goldle-McCulloch Co., but latterly had worked for Clare Bros., Preston. He was a carpenter by trade and a skilled workman. He had been ailing for about a year, and during that period was unable to follow his calling. He appeared to be in better health the last two weeks, but it was only a temporary improvement, as he soon lost strength and finally succumbed to the malady with which he was afflicted. His widow and one son, Wellington, of this town, survive him. His other son died some years ago. The deceased, who was 74 years old, was a valued member of the Methodist Church, with which he had long been connected. A just man gone to his reward, may rightly be applied to the late Mr. Shupe, whose memory, as an upright, honest and God-fearing man, will not soon be forgotten. The funeral will take place from his late residence, at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, to Mount View cemetery.
