- 'Pat' Seiling Of St. Jacobs Sent To Reformatory For Having Liquor For Sale
Henry "Pat" Selling, proprietor of the St. Jacobs Hotel at St. Jacobs pleaded guilty in police court today to a charge of keeping liquor for sale, Seiling's place was raided by the provincial police a month ago and a liquor cache found under a wood pile. Two adjournments were taken in his case, the last being two weeks ago when on a physician's certificate he was excused from appearing in court owing to iliness.
After Selling pleaded guilty today, Magistrate Weir sentenced him to four months in the Ontario Reformatory, the sentence to begin next Tuesday. Through his counsel, H. E. German of McBride and Mc Gibbon, Waterloo, Selling asked until Tuesday to arrange his affairs before surrendering himself for sentence. The magistrate allowed the request and let the defendant out on bail until 10 o'clock Tuesday when he must report to court for committal. He furnished his own bond.
Previous convictions standing against the accused were waived by the prosecution which was represented by Inspector Moore of the provincial police in the absence of J. C. Makins, prosecutor for the Liquor Control Board. He was therefore charged with first offence when he pleaded guilty.
