    • DEATH SUMMONS ST. JACOB'S MAN

      William Menger Was Oldest Native Resident Of Village; Assessor For 50 Years

      The village of St. Jacobs yesterday suffered the loss of a prominent citizen in the death of William Menger in his 76th year. Mr. Menger was born in St. Jacobs and was the oldest native resident of village. He was assessor for the Township of Woolwich, ward 3, for 50 years. In the early 70's he taught school in Woolwich and later became, agent for the Waterloo Manufacturing Company. He was a great lover of horses and hunting. For many years he acted as game warden and county constable. He was a Conservative in politics.

      Surviving him are his widow, five sons, William O., of Hamilton; Eugene, Torontos, Alvin, at home; Herbert of Brazil, South America; Emerson of Los Angeles, and one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Moser of Preston. Two children, son and daughter, died in infancy. Two brothers and one sister, also his seniors also survive him.

      The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1.30 from his late residence in St. Jacobs to Calvary Evangelical church, thence to the Evangelical cemetery for interment.
