Death of Mr. Theophiles Sampson
It is with regret that we announce the death of this at one time well known resident of Galt, which occurred at Charlotteville, Norfolk Co., on Saturday, May 30th. Mr. Sampson's illness was of but short duration, he having been confined to the house for but two or three days. Some twenty-five of thirty years ago, the subject of this notice was a prominent man in Galt. He at various times accepted the position of assessor, as well as collector; while as a magistrate he took in his hands the entire magisterial business of the village, and "I'll take you before Sampson" became synonymous with threatening all the powers of the law. The march of the age at length left the old gentleman behind, and a good many years ago now he left Galt to reside in Norfolk County, where it was understood he had taken up a farm. Since then, he has only paid occasional visits to the town, the last being but a few months ago. It was then remarked how well he looked, and how lightly age had dealt with him; and little did those who met and greeted him imagine that the next they would hear of him would be the account of his death. But it was so ordained and among his old acquaintances there will be many who will read these lines with regret. Mr. Sampson was aged 77 years at the time of his death.

The deceased lady was on a visit to her friends, and in perfect health to all appearances, until she retired for the night. Then she became unwell, and before medical assistance could be procured from Galt, her soul had passed into the hands of its Creator
