  Pioneer Woolwich Resident is Dead Late George Ries Succumbed to Month's Illness; Survived by Widow and Eight Children Following an illness of a month's duration, George Ries passed away on Sunday, April 22, at his home two miles east of Elmira, aged 82 years, three months and 20 days. The late Mr. Ries was born in Germany, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eckhart Ries and came with his parents to this country when just an infant. They settled on a farm near Strassburg where they lived ten years, and then moved to the farm east of Elmira where he has lived for the past 72 years. He was married on March 20, 1887 to Margaret Wettlaufer by whom he is survived, as well as by eight children: Louis and George of Springwater, Sask; Henry, Winterbourne, Alberta; William, at home; Charlie, Abbotsford, B.C.; John, of Detroit; (Katie) Mrs. Albert Geisel, near Elmira; (Louisa) Mrs. Herbert Kramp, of Kitchener. There are five grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also survive. They are: Charles Ries, of Vernon, B.C.; Mrs. Elizabeth Heibein of Gorrie and Mrs. Lena Heibein, of Conquest, Sask. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from his late residence to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of which he was a life-long member. Rev. A Rolf had charge of the service. Interment was made in the Elmira cemetery, the pallbearers being JohnHartwig, Noah Reist, Jaob Aberle, Henry -, George Oetzel and Henry Geisel. Elmira Signet 26 Apr 1928
