  • Notes
    • The late Mrs. J. L. Umbach, whose death was chronicled in our last issue, was born in Virginia, on March 9th, 1849. She came to Canada with her parents when about ten years old, and the family lived in Waterloo for a short time, then in North Woolwich and later on the 6th of Peel. She was married to Mr. Umbach on July 7, 1868, and they lived in North Woolwich until 1900 when they came to Elmira. Last October they moved to Floradale, where they bought the Quickfall home. Besides her sorrowing husband she leaves three children, namely, Samuel, on the old homestead, Joshua, in Victoria, B.C., and Mrs. J. B. Snyder, at Floradale. She is also survived by her brother, Mr. Geo. Edler, and two sisters, Mrs. Con. Miller, Elmira, and Mrs. George Schinbein, of Conestogo. Mrs. Umbach enjoyed good health until about a month ago when she occasionally got spells of dizziness. These finally ended in a fatal stroke of apoplexy after she had been in bed for about ten days. The remains were laid to rest in Elmira Union Cemetery last Sunday afternoon, Pastor F.B. Meyer, of the Evangelical Church, officiating. A large number of friends paid her a last tribute of respect by attending the funeral.
