  Ayr Methodist Church Begun: 1864 Closed: 1926 A church was built in 1864 on Piper Street in Ayr.  Administered from Paris in the beginning, the congregation was later placed on the Sheffield Circuit of the Wesleyan Methodist Church.  In 1895 that circuit was moved from the Hamilton Conference of the Methodist Church to the Galt District, Guelph Conference. The 50th Anniversary of the congregation was celebrated on March 11, 1914.  In the same year the congregation purchased the pews from Stanley Street Presbyterian Church which had joined with Knox Presbyterian Church on May 31, 1914.  On June 6, 1926 the congregation voted in favour of union with Knox United Presbyterian Church, the new church body to be known as Knox United Church.  At the time of union the Methodist church was known as the Piper Street Church.  Readers may be interested to learn that there is a stone marker across the street from 65 Piper Street, Ayr, which bears the inscription: "This stone marks the site of the Ayr Methodist Church 1864-1926".
