Another Octogenarian Gone...
On Thursday last another of our oldest residents departed to his long home, in the person of Mr. Peter Sickle, Sr., who died at his late residence in South Dumfries at the advanced age of 82 years. The deceased was a Canadian by birth and lived the greater part of the time on the farm on which he died. His life was a very quiet uneventful one. He rook no active part in either municipal or political matters, further than to record his vote which was always in favor of the Reform candidate. Four sons, Peter, who resides on the homestead, William, of this township, James, of Galt, and Emery, of Sheffield, and three daughters, Mrs. Cushman and Mrs. Smith, of Galt, and Mrs. M. Katze, of this township, survive him His funeral on Saturday was attended by a large number of relatives and friends, when he was laid to rest in the Methodist cemetery, the ceremonies at the house and the grave being conducted by the Rev. D. M. Mihell, M. A.

DEATH OF MR. PETER SICKLE, OF SOUTH DUMFRIES
Born and Died in the Township - Lived Long Beyond the Allotted Time Honored and Respected During Life-His Death Generally Regretted.
One by one the hardy pioneers who redeemed this fertile country from the wilderness are passing away, and soon that noble race not one will be left. One of the few remaining fathers of this fair Dominion was called to his home above on Thursday, in the person of Mr. Peter Sickle, of South Dumfries, who had passed beyond the allotted three score years and ten, and had attained the ripe old age of 82 years. Although possibly not the oldest person in this district, he was unquestionably the oldest resident, having been born in South Dumfries, where his long life was spent. His parents were U. E. Loyalists, and he inherited from them a patriotic, as well as an Independent nature, and to this was added a strength of purpose, clearness of mind and rugged and unwavering integrity, attributes which combined to make him respected and admired of men.
Some fifty years ago he married Miss Samantha Kelley, and to this union was born seven children, all of whom are living. They are Mrs. A. McKenzie and Williams St. George James, near Galt; Mrs. Cushman and Mrs. Ed. Smith. Galt: Emory Nelson, Stratford, and Peter, on the homestead.
The deceased was a Reformer in politics and in religion a Baptist, and one who believed as fully in his party as in his church. Being of an unassuming disposition he never, though if he had so desired could have done so, held a public office.
His death was not brought about by an specific malady, but was due to the breaking up of the systems, the natural effect of old age. Five years ago he was afflicted with blindness, and since then had been in feeble health.
The funeral took place from his late residence, near St. George, at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, to the Methodist church cemetery, St. George
