___________________________
Born Oct 9, 1838 in Preston, Ontario, Canada. She died at her home four miles east of Ford, March 11, 1925, at age of 86, in Ford, Ford County, Kansas, and is buried in the Ford Cemetery.
She was married to Patrick Henry Melia July 18, 1865, and to this union were born 6 children: I.N and J.A. of Bucklin, E.V. of Ford, Henry W. of Jefferson, Oklahoma, O.B. of Loveland Colorado, and Mrs. Milton W. Stanley of Wamego, Kansas, all of whom surivive her with the exception of Henry W. who proceeded her in death in 1923. She united with the church in early girlhood and was a consistant and faithful Christian all her long life.
In 1869 she, with her husband, moved to Ionia County, Michigan, where they resided until 1880, at which time they moved to Saline County, Kansas. From there, they came to Ford County in 1885, where she has since resided. In 1899, Her Husband preceeded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss, 2 brothers, Tobias Bergy, of Jackson, Mich., and Wellington Bergy of Calidonia,Mich. and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Morey of Alma, Mich. also leaves 4 sons, one daughter, 22 grand children and 2 great grandchilddren and many other friends who will miss her happy smile and cheerful presence, but their loss is her gain.
Mrs. Melia lived to a ripe old age. She had not been in good health for the past 2 years, but her last illness was only a few days when she obeyed the summons "to come up higher."
She had been a faithful interested member and supporter of the Congregational Church of Ford for the last 24 years. For the last 2 years she had not been able to get out much, but her peace of mind flowed on like a river and her cheerful, happy smile never failed...........
