  MRS. MICHAEL SPIES. The funeral of Mrs. Michael Spies, nee Strasser, who passed peacefully away, at the ripe old age of 90 years Sunday evening, Sept. 5th, at the home of her son, Rev. T. S. Spies, St. Jacobs, was held Wed., Sept. 8th at 2.15 o'clock. Rev. M. L. Wing conducted the services, which were largely attended. Interment took place in the Heidelberg Evangelical cemetery. Mrs. Spies was born in Metzing, Wertenberg, Germany, April 7th, A. D. 1825. She came to Canada at the age of 18 years, when she was married Sept. 16th 1845, to Michael Spies. They resided for a number of years near Heidelberg, commonly known as (Koenigs Bush) in the Township of Wellesley, Waterloo Co. Later they moved to Hawkesville where they lived until his death, which took place Sept. 28th, 1885, being in his 70th year. Two daughters, Katherine and Elizabeth, preceded her in death. Deceased is survived by her only a son, Frederick, in the North West, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Stricker, Moorefield, Ont. She is 77 years of age. Fourteen grandchildren and six great grand children also survive. Mrs. Spies was well known in the Fommunity. She was a woman of a kind disposition and her death is a source of sorrow to a wide circle of friends and relatives. The Chronicle Telegraph, 9 Sep 1915, p. 4
