- NORMAN WALFORD
1947-1992
Norman B. Walford was born in Preston, the son of Gordon and Violet Walford. He studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music and served as a church organist. Mr. Walford completed a degree in psychology at the University of Guelph and then moved to Toronto where he served on the boards of the Ontario Museums Association, the Ontario Association of Art Galleries and the Toronto Early Music Centre. In 1989 he was named the executive director of the Ontario Arts Council, one of the most influential positions in the arts community in Ontario. Under Mr. Walford's leadership, the Ontario Arts Council became more aggressive in its profile as an arts lobbyist and extended its services beyond the large urban centres to smaller communities, while developing programs to involve more groups. Mr. Walford died in Toronto on December 15, 1992.
