- Former Ayr Resident Passes
The death occurred at his residence in Preston on Thursday of Herbert J. (Bert) Prine in his 75th year. The late Mr. Prine was born in St. George, a son of the late William Prine and Annie McSwain. They moved to Ayr while he was a child and resided in the house off Piper St. now owned by Mrs. Thomas Hawes. He received his education here before leaving this community as a young man. He was wounded overseas during World War I. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Lumby; three sons and two daughters. Funeral service was held on Saturday, under auspices of Royal Canadian Legion, at the Stager-Barthel Funeral Home, Preston, with interment in Park Lawn Cemetery, Preston.

Herbert Prine
PRESTON— Herbert J. (Bert) Prine, 74, of 3513 Hamilton, St., Preston, died today at his residence. Mr. Prine was born at St. George, Ont. and had lived here for 22 years. He had previously resided in Vancouver and Elora. He was a veteran of the First World War and in the veterans guard for six years in the Second World War. He was predeceased by one son, Lloyd, in 1959. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Lumby, three sons, John, Milton and David, all of Preston; two daughters, Mrs. H. (Marion) Bartoe of Charlottetown, W.Va. and Mrs. J. (Beverley) Smith of Brussels, Ont.; one brother, Charles of Windsor, four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Lonsbury of Fergus, Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Gill of Paris, Mrs. Elizabeth Dick and Mrs. Jane Parks both of Elora and 14 grandchildren. The body is at the Stager-Barthel Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery. Canon R. T. Appleyard of St. John's Anglican Church will officiate.
