Notes |
- Mrs. Adam Douglas - The death occurred, after a lingering illness, on Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, of Mrs. Adam Douglas, a highly esteemed resident of this village. Deceased, whose maiden name was Margaret Lake, was born near Glenmorris, her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Lake, being among the early settlers in that section. She was married some 37 years ago and settled with her husband in Ayr. They later removed to a farm in Blenheim for a period of 11 years, after which they returned to Ayr some 11 years ago. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, taking an active interest in the different women's organizations of the congregation. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Clare, and one daughter, Mrs. F. H. Dunn of Walkerville; also by two sisters and three brothers, viz.: Mrs. James Cowan and Mrs. A. McPhail, Galt James Lake, Galt; Thomas Lake, Cedar Creek, and Andrew Lake, Puslinch. The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon and was very largely attended. Friends were present from near and far, including the following distant points, viz.: Detroit, Wingham, Hamilton, London, Mount Forest and Burford. The service at the residence was in charge of Rev. Patterson Hall of Galt, assisted by Rev. W. F. McConnell of Paris and Mr. Dowdy of Ayr. During the service Rev. Hall sang the solo, "There is a Green Hill," with much feeling. At the graveside the service was jointly conducted by Rev. John Taylor of India, a cousin of the deceased, who is at present home on furlough, and Rev. Taylor Munro of Kitchener. The pallbearers were: Andrew Taylor and William Taylor, Paris; Andrew G. Laurie, Andrew E. Laurie, William Bain and George Eaton. The funeral service was carried out is expressly desired by the deceased.
