Notes |
- Clare Douglas Passes Suddenly
The community was shocked on Friday by the sudden death, as a result of a heart attack, of one of its most popular citizens, Clare Douglas. He was in his 62nd year. The late Mr. Douglas was born in Ayr, a son of the late Adam and Margaret Douglas. He farmed in this area all of his life, for the past 27 years on the place at the village's northern outskirts. In former years he was a noted breeder of horses which took many awards at district fairs and shows. Mr. Douglas was noted for his warm, cheerful disposition and was a welcome figure at many social events. He was a member of Knox United Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Mae Jean Huson; and two daughters, Mrs. George (Shirley) Mitchell, RR 3, Ayr and Marilyn at home. A sister, Mrs. Francis (Marybelle) Dunn of Windsor also survives. The Funeral service was held from his late residence on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles A. Bain, Erb Clark, Thomas Robson, Erie Sharp, William G. Edgar and Dr. J. H. Caulfield, all of this community.
