    • One by one the old residents are passing away. On Tuesday evening John Swan, a pioneer of this district, was added to the list. He had been ill for some time and on Saturday morning was stricken with apoplexy. Mr. Swan was born at Dundas, but lived practically all his life in Ayr or its vicinity. He had attained the good age of 75 years and up to a few years ago was quiet active. He was a plasterer by trade, but worked for some years as a melter with the late John Watson. The family was one of the original settlers on Swan St., which accounts for the origin of the name. In his boyhood the wolves used to howl around his father's little log cabin at night, and he knew something of the hardships of pioneer life. The deceased was twice married, his first wife being a Miss Colwell and the second a miss Cuthbertson. A family of two sons and three daughters survive. They are James, New Hamburg; John on the Pacific Coast; Mrs. Geo. Bundshoe, Milverton; Sarah at Galt and Martha at home. The funeral takes place to Ayr Cemetery at 4 pm today.
