  Miss Elizabeth Cumming Death removed from our midst yesterday afternoon of Miss Elizabeth Cumming, who died at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Alex. Greig, after a prolonged illness. Miss Cumming has been an invalid for over a year, suffering from that dread disease consumption. Being a zealous Christian, she bore her trouble without a murmur and at all times looking to her Heavenly Father for assistance. Miss Cumming was very popular with a large circle of friends, in Preston as well as Galt, where she at one time resided and kind and loving friends were constantly at her bedside during the period of her illness. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church here and the useful and exemplary life that she has lived will doubtless lead others to the path of righteousness. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid Society, where her services were always valuable. Being possessed of a kind and loving heart, always ready to bestow charity, her demise will be generally regretted. Miss Cumming was a native of Scotland, having been born in Hawick, Roxboroughshire, in 1845, consequently she was 51 years of age. She came to Canada in 1859 and for many years made Galt her home. She was engaged in the fancy goods business for eight years and became widely known in that capacity. Christian fortitude has always characterized her illness and she expressed a willingness to die. Deceased has a brother residing in Sherbrooke, Que. The funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon, at 4 o'clock and will proceed to the Preston cemetery. The Weekly Reformer 12 Nov 1896 pg 10
