Notes |
- Death of Charles Smuck - the community was sensibly shocked last Thursday afternoon on learning of the death of Mr. Chas. Smuck, which took place at his residence, the Commercial Hotel, at 8: 30 pm, after a very short illness. The deceased came here from Alberta in July last to take charge of the business during the illness of his brother, the late Wm. Smuck. He had been in the west about a year and for some years previously had been in the drug business in Toronto, where he was married in 1908 to Miss May Prince, who survives. The deceased, who was in his 39th year, was born on the homestead in South Dumfries and was well known to a wide circle in this section.
The funeral on Saturday afternoon was attended by a large number of friends, interment being made in the Ayr Cemetery. The floral tributes were numerous. The services at both house and grave were conducted by Rev. Mr. James, pastor of the Methodist church. The pallbearers were Messrs. Robert Smuck, Geo. W. Cross, A. and J. Markle, W.H. Simnett and Chas. Prince. Among those from a distance who attended the obsequies were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Simnett, Chas. Thos. And Edward Prince and the Misses Annie and Minnie Glynn, Toronto; Mrs. H. Rau, New Hamburg; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ames, Mr. Jefferson, Alex Markle, Galt; Mr. and Mrs. L. Mans, Paris; Mr. and Mrs. F(?)es, Glenmorris, and Mrs. A. Markle and Mr. Wm. Markle, Drumbo.
