- Death of Miss Cameron
One of Ayr's Most Beloved Citizens Passes Away
It was with deep regret that the many friends of Miss Mina Cameron learned of her sudden death on Thursday evening in Hamilton where she had gone to be with friends during the holiday season. Miss Cameron had not been in good health for some time caused partly by the ? anxiety and had undergone during her sister's long illness and subsequent death. She was in her usual health when she left on Tuesday morning, but a severe heart seizure to which she was subject, proved fatal. Miss Cameron was born in Hamilton, but much the greater part of her life was spent in Ayr where she was a loved and honored citizen. The sorrow which is felt in the village will be shared by many other old friends and by many of her old boys and girls who will regret that after her busy life, she had not been spared to enjoy a longer period of leisure. Her many kindnesses, her genial ways, her ready sympathy, with those in happ ?nood, as well as with those in ?, and her Christian life will keep her memory green for many years to come. For over forty years she taught in the village school and for most of that time she taught in Knox Church Sunday School and was a member of the choir. Her pupils are scattered throughout Canada and she kept closely in touch with many of them. After her resignation, they showed their appreciation by an address and testimonial. It would be hard to estimate the value of her Influence. The funeral was held from her late residence on Monday afternoon, a simple service, as she would have wished, being conducted by the Rev. J. W. Currie. The pallbearers were old pupils, as follows : John Manson, David Cuthbertson, Archie G. Watson, John Henderson, John Gillies and James Woolsey. Amongst those from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Cameron, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, Toronto; Lorne Flaws, Toronto; Mrs. Sclater, Toronto; James Thomson and Raymond Thomson, Toronto; George Thomson, Caledonia; Mrs. McGaw, Galt; Joseph Lewis, Toronto; William Anderson, Galt.
