- DICKIE, ALEXANDER
Word has been received here (Galt) of the death on Friday, March 10, 1899, of Mr. Dickie at Orchard Lake, Michigan. He formerly resided in Puslinch, near Hespeler and removed to Michigan, where his family all reside, about seven or eight years ago. He was the last of the Dickie family and was aged about 85 years. Brother of Mrs. Alex. Cranston Sr. of Shade St. in Galt; Robert Dickie of London and the well known Dickies, now of New Zealand, formerly of the Dickie Settlement. Uncle of Messrs. J. K. and ?. D. Cranston of Galt.
-Information from The McKay and McLennan Families by Jean Harnick and Pauline McKay: Born in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland on Oct. 8, 1815, son of John Dickie and Marion Cuthbertson, who emigrated to lot 29, concession 12, Dumfries Twp. in 1833. Married Mary McKay, daughter of Alexander McKay and Catharine McLennan and settled on a farm near Puslinch Lake. Offspring were thirteen. After living on their farm for forty years, they moved on April 1, 1892, to be near their children, who had married and taken up farms in the Lapeer area of Michigan. Children were: Marion Cuthbertson (1851-1918) married Robert S. Cuthbertson; Catherine McLennan (1853-1936) married James M. Cuthbertson; Alexander (1855-1927); John James (1857-1945); Hugh Cuthbertson (1858-1943); David (1860-1952); Mary Jane (1862-1864); Robert McIntyre (1864-1913); Jessie Henderson (1866-1899) married Francis A. Hicks; Mary Ann (1869-1935) married Thomas M. Caley; and Margaret Sutherland (1871-1927) married William Caley, later George Stock.
