    • SCHEDULE "B" TO BY-LAW 58-88 OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION

89 Grand Avenue South is an excellent example of a mid- 19th Century coursed grey granite Ontario Cottage. Located in the heritage conservation recognition area identified as "Galt's Core" and built circa 1858, this one (1) storey cottage with a hipped roof and gabled summer-kitchen wing is also a good example of a worker's residence. John McDougall, the first occupant, was a carpenter at Goldie and McCulloch for twenty-five (25) years before his retirement in 1876. The superb grey granite wall fabric is punctuated by Welsh arches and quoins in a contrasting limestone. The central main entry features rectangular transom light and side windows with a corresponding exterior storm ensemble.

      REASONS FOR DESIGNATION
It dates from an early period in the development of the City's communities; it is a representative example of a method of construction now rarely used; it is a good, and representative example-of its architectural style or period of building; and it makes an important contribution to the urban streetscape of which it forms a part.
