Notes |
- Linwood - Last Saturday evening about 9 p, m., the sad intelligence reached our village that Mr. John Seip, who lived about a mile east of Linwood, had dropped dead. Mr. Seip had been working in the hay field all day in his usual health. In the evening while in the act of getting some wood ready, he fell dead in the woodshed. Much sympathy is felt for the family, and his death has cast a gloom over Linwood. The late Mr. Seip was one of the best farmers in our neighborhood. Such is life, death being no respector [sic] of persons.
Wellesley Maple Leaf, July 19, 1906
__________
Word was received here on Monday of the sudden demise of a well- known and highly respected farmer near Linwood.
We refer to the death of John Seip, which took place on Saturday evening. Deceased had worked all day in the hay field and ate his supper as usual. Later on he went out to the summer kitchen to kindle a fire to heat some water. When he did not return for a considerable time his wife went out to see what was the matter and was shocked to find him sitting on the steps dead. Deceased had contemplated retiring from the farm and with that intent had a house under construction in the village of Linwood into which purposed moving when it was finished.
Mr. Seip was a consistent member and one of the main supporters of the Missouri Lutheran church at Linwood. The funeral took place on Tuesday and was attended by a large number of friends and neighbours.
Rev. R. Eifert, of Floradale, conducted the funeral service assisted by Rev. P. Graupner, of Elmira, who gave a short address in English.
