- Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bock, Providence Bay, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Mel Bock, Little Current, on January 2nd. Mr. and Mrs. Bock were married at Sandfield Mills, 50 years ago by the Rev. J. T. Barker, Baptist minister. For 50 years, Mr. and Mrs. Bock have resided on Manitoulin and always in the same township, Carnarvon. The anniversary was celebrated quietly with their sons present, George and Melvin when a turkey dinner was served. Presentations were made to the couple, Mrs. Bock receiving a gold brooch and Mrs. Bock was presented with a gold watch chain. Mr. Bock is 77 and Mrs. Bock 74 and both are hale and hearty. Friends wish these two sturdy pioneers congratulations and hope that they may long be spared to enjoy old age in good health.
The Recorder, Gore Bay, January 12, 1933

MANITOULIN ISLE PIONEER LADY DIES AT LITTLE CURRENT
GORE BAY, March 24 - Another of the few remaining early pioneers of the Manitoulin passed away at Little Current, on February 23rd, in the person of Mrs. Henry Bock. Her last illness was not lengthy nor did she suffer at the last when a cerebral hemmorrhage was the immediate cause of death.
The deceased, Esther Cranston, was born July 1, 1858 near Shelburne, Ontario. When a young woman, she came to the Manitoulin to visit her sister, Jane, (Mrs. Weir) living at Providence Bay. On January 2nd, 1883, she was married at Sandfield to Henry Bock, who predeceased her several years ago. After the misfortune of being burned out at Morrison's Corners, they settled on a farm on concession 8 of Carnarvon township.
Mrs. Bock proved a good neighbour and in those days there were many calls for assistance at bees and bedsides. Ministers of the gospel found the Bock home always open to them. Rev. R. McLaren who preached the funeral sermon, frequently claimed their hospitality in those early days.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons; George on the homestead and Melvin of Little Current, two brothers, George and James Cranston of Shelburne and seven grandchildren.
The funeral service from Providence Bay Church was conducted by Rev. G. Barkewell of Little Current United Church, assisted by Rev. R. McLaren of Manitowaning.
The pallbearers were; H. Caddel, G. Johnston, A. King, E. Tracy, W. A. Hill and C. McDermid.
