• Notes

  BUCHANAN, DANIEL was first mentioned when the Dumfries Reformer on August 5, 1897 reported that he would be opening an office on the corner of North Water Street and North Street, but his card did not appear until September twenty third. He was born in 1868 in Washington, Oxford County. His parents moved to Glen Morris and he thus received his early education in Galt. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1896, and took postgraduate work in London and Edinburgh, obtaining the degree of Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He established a successful general practice in Galt, and as well was regarded as a skillful anaesthetist. In addition to his activity in the usual professional associations, he was involved in civic affairs, being a member of the school board for a number of years. He was a keen sportsman, a football player in his early years, and a golfer and curler latterly. He died suddenly in Detroit on September 7, 1933, while visiting his son Dr. W. Paul Buchanan. He was also survived by his second wife, the former Josephine Lundy. A brother was Rev. John Buchanan, M. D. a missionary in India. One obituary made the comment that he was a friend to all.
