PRAIRIE DU SAC - Mrs. May C. Gauerke, age 88, of Prairie du Sac, died on Sunday, November 6, 1983, at a Madison hospital. She was born on October 18, 1895, in New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Peter and Emeline Merner Rieder. She married Arthur Gauerke on July 9, 1925, in Kitchener, Ontario. She and her husband spent 27 years in western Canada as Missionaries and 31 years in Wisconsin where her husband served as pastor to several churches. They retired to Prairie du Sac 15 years ago. Mrs. Gauerke was a member of Concordia United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and active in other church activities. She was also a member of the World War I Veterans Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, The Reverend Arthur Gauerke; three daughters, Joyce Tanner of Escondido, California, Hope Senn of Winfield, Illinois, Ruth Denker of Naperville, Illinois; a sister, Alma Flett of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by five sisters; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at CONCORDIA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Prairie du Sac at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 with the Reverend Paul Reinhold officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie du Sac cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 at the GNEWIKOW-SCHWOEGLER-ZIMMERMANN FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to M.A.P. (Medical Assistance Program International).
