  PIONEER LAWYER CALLED BY DEATH W.J. Millican, Resident of Calgary Since 1904, Died on Sunday Following a very brief illness, William John Millican, prominent barrister and solicitor and a resident of Calgary since 1904, died at the family residence early Sunday morning at the age of 70 years. The remains were removed to the Foster and Foster funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2:15 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and interment will be made in the Burnsland cemetery. Rev. George A. Dickson will officiate. The late Mr. Millican was born at Belwood, Ontario, on February 26, 1861, the eldest son of the late Rev. and Mrs. William Millican. His father was a minister of the Presbyterian Church. He was an honor graduate of Dr. Tassie's private school. Mr. Millican commenced his study of law by becoming articled to the late Donald Guthrie, K.C., of Guelph, Ont., and was later with the law firm of Chisholm and Haskell of Hamilton, Ont. He passed his final law examinations at Osgood Hall, Toronto, and was called to the bar of Ontario in 1888. Came to Macleod In 1903 Mr. Millican came west and settled at Macleod, Alberta, where he founded a law firm. He practiced there for one year and then moved to Calgary, where he has practiced law continually since 1904. The firm name was Millican and Millican and he was associated with his two sons, Lieut.-Col. Harold Millican and Harry Millican. Mr. Millican was married in 1893 to Miss Mary E. Bingham, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. G.D. Bingham of Toronto. Surviving are his widow, two sons, Harold and Harry, two grandchildren, Harold Stewart Millican and Anna Jacqueline Millican, his sister, Mrs. Anna Forbes, and two brothers, Dr. J.A. Millican and A.E. Millican of Calgary. Mr. Millican was a prominent member of the Masonic Order, and his two chief recreations were reading and travel.
