  • Notes
    • In Galt, on Saturday evening last, William O'Brien, son of Mr. W. B. O'Brien, of Galt, aged 19 years and 10 months.

The young man whose demise we thus announce fell a victim to that scourge of nearly every country - consumption. He was for a long time while in health a member of Galt Infantry Company, and in September, 1866, accompanied the Company, to the cap at Thorold. While, there, he contracted the disease which has now carried him off, and thus falls another victim to Fenian threats and Fenian outrage. A few months ago, Mr. O'Brien took a trip to Scotland in hopes of recruiting his health but the disease had obtained too strong a hold upon his constitution to be easily shaken off, and he returned but little, if any benefitted by the voyage. Since that time, he has gradually grown weaker, until on Saturday night, he sank peacefully to his long rest. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, at 4 o'clock, the hearse being preceded by the members of the Volunteer Company with arms reversed, and followed by a large concourse of citizens. Upon the body being deposited in the grave, three volleys were fired by his late comrades, and the assemblage then dispersed. Mr. O'Brien was much respected by those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.
