• Notes

  Robert Somerville Hamilton was born in Motherwell and a graduate of Science at the University of Toronto. Also at Cornell University. He taught in Georgetown and Whitby before coming to Galt in 1894, joing the staff at the Galt Colliegiate Institiute. He remained for 40 year years serving as the school's science master. After retiring in 1934 he pursued his interests in local history, writing "The Early History of Galt 1816 - 1866" a book published after his death.
