  Edwin John Getty was born in Paris, Ontario and was a resident of Galt for about 60 years. A shoemaker by trade he began making shoes in 1893. In 1899 he went into partnership with F. Stewart Scott to form Getty and Scott, manufacturers of the "The Classic Shoe", high quality childrens' shoes. He served as president until 1912 when he sold his share to his partner and retired. GETTY, 85 Special to The Star Galt, Dec. 18-Funeral service was held here for E. J. Getty, 85, who died Sunday in Toronto following a lengthy illness. The founder and former president of Getty and Scott Shoe Co., Mr. Getty has been retired for 43 years. He was a member of Central Presbyterian church; Galt lodge number 257, A.F. and A.M.; Court Manchester, Canadian Order of Foresters, number 71; Waterloo Golf and Country club; Galt Curling club and the George Street Bowling club. He was a lifelong Conservative. Pre-deceased by his wife, Mr. Getty is survived by a son, Dr. Edwin C. Getty of Buffalo, a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Lorimer, at whose home he lived in Forest Hill Village and a grandson, Dr. Darrow H. Getty of Buffalo. The Toronto Star, Tue, Dec 18, 1956 Page 10
