    • HAWKE, ALBERT . Andrew Hunter in "A history of Simcoe County" described the Hawke family, saying that the head of the family came from Pennsylvania about 1811. "Some part of the family moved to the township of Wellesley, County of Waterloo, where the village of Hawkesville was named after them."

      Albert Hawke was born in Hawkesville, where he was educated, later graduating from Trinity College, Toronto in 1883. He took postgraduate work at Edinburgh University and became a Licentiate, and Licentiate in Midwifery, of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He spent some time in post graduate courses in Germany as well.

      On his return to Canada he began to practise in Hawkesville, but after about a year moved to Galt. His card appeared in the Dumfries Reformer March 12, 1885.

      Albert Hawke M. B. , L. R. C. P. Edinburgh and L. M. Edinburgh. Assuming Dr. Vardon's Practice. Office Ainslie St. next Reformer Office. Night office - Imperial Hotel. Night bell at private entrance. Telephone communication with all parts of town.

      His obituary appeared in the Galt Evening Reporter,

      October 6, 1927. Described as "one of the city's oldest and best known medical men", he was "one of Galt's best known citizens."

      He "had also taken a keen and active interest in civic and government affairs. He was an ex-mayor of the city, having held that office in 1902, after serving one year on the aldermanic board. His death took place on October 5, 1927, and he was survived by his widow and one son.
