LIGHTNING'S FATAL WORK.
Two men killed and Three Persons Wounded at Berlin During the Storm Last Saturday.
On Saturday last at 12 o'clock lightning struck the new dwelling of Wm. Fehernbach, saddler, of Berlin, and instantly killed two men Wesley Learn of Berlin and young Merklinger of Dundalk, who were working on the building, and wounded Mr. Bower, Rosie Straus and Jacob Schoeno.
This is one of the saddest catastrophes that has befallen the town of Berlin for many years. The unpleasant duty of breaking the sad news to the young wife of Mr. Learn is beyond description.
Mr. Bartlett, the undertaker had charge of the dead and embalmed the bodies in a manner that proved very satisfactory. At all the Churches in town feeling reference was made on Sabbath, to the sad lightning fatality of Saturday and the bereaved families have the heart felt sympathy of all. The funeral was largely attended on Monday afternoon. The remains of Merklinger were, taken to Dundalk on Monday morning. His parents live seven miles from that village on a farm. He was an excellent young man

Mr. Henry C. Barlett has sold a part of his property here, consisting of dwelling and carriage shop together with his undertaking business, to Mr. D. H. Williams, harnessmaker, and intends removing to some one of the larger villages of the county. Mr. Barlett has been very successful, both in the carriage and undertaking business. In the latter branch of his business his success was very largely due to his good taste and gentlemanly qualities. His outfit was always in the best of trim and he was always on time and spared no pains to give the dead as respectable burial as possible. Mr. Barlett's decision to remove from the village is very much to be regretted as his enterprise had considerable to do with building up the village. At this point I may say that much sympathy is felt for him and his family in the result of the suit of McKay vs himself, nevertheless no one reflected seriously on the plaintiff and had the suit resulted otherwise, the sympathy now expressed for Mr. Barlett would have been equally strong for Mr. McKay, as both gentlemen stand high in the esteem of their fellow citizens and it was greatly regretted that a difficulty so trifiing could not have been settled without such expensive litigation. Mr. Barlett we understand intends to appeal.

ADDRESS AND PRESENTATIONS.
On Monday evening last, the Foresters' Hall was the scene of a very interesting gathering of the people of this place. Mr. Henry C. Barlett, a member of that order being about to remove with his family to Waterloo, his brother Foresters, although regretting his remove, determined to give him and his family as happy a send-off....
