Notes |
- FEARFULLY SUDDEN DEATH - The village of Doon was startled on Tuesday night last by the news that one of its most respected residents, Mr. Alexander McRae, had suddenly expired. The report was doubted at first, for Mr. McRae had been at his usual occupation during the day apparently in the best of health; but it turned out, alas! to be too true. The deceased was formerly a school teacher, and was well known as such throughout the county; having Taught at Sprague's Road school, at Aberdeen and Roseville, and several other places. Of late, however, he had been acting as clerk for the Messrs. Baer, of Doon, and on Tuesday attended to business all day. After tea in the evening he took a walk as far as the station, returning to his home and going to bed at an early hour. After being in bed for some little time lie complained that he did not feel well and got up, but fainted from the exertion. Restoratives being applied he speedily rallied; and Mrs. McRae went to the railway station to see if she could by any means get a telegram to Dr. Molloy; of Preston. It was too late to do so, however, and she returned to the house - only to find her husband lying dead on the floor, with the hand of his little ten year old daughter firmly clasped in his. He had apparently expired within a very few minutes after his wife left the house. The deceased was 46 years of age, and was widely known and respected, and while generally enjoying the best of health he had of late complained at times of a severe pain in his chest. He leaves a widow and six children to mourn their irreparable loss. The deceased was a brother of Mr. S. McRae, school teacher at Blair.
The funeral will take place today (Friday) at 10 o'clock, a. m., from his late residence to Doon Cemetery.
