Galt Machine Knife Works
Among the many industries for which Galt is noted none have contributed more than the Galt Machine Knife Works, owned by Peter Hay. His manufactory has become a household word to the users of all kinds of machine knives, planers, moulding, shingle, tennon and mitre knives. In all parts of the Dominion where knives are used they are to be found. Mr. Hay's patronage is well deserved, wide as it is, as nothing inferior to the best is turned out. As a citizen he enjoys the confidence of his townsmen and is highly esteemed.
Jubilee Souvenir of Galt 1897

Peter Hay, Manufacturer of Machine Knives - The business conducted by Mr. Peter Hay is one of the many specialties in which the manufacturing industries of Galt abound. The business was established four years ago, and since its inception has made remarkable progress, the trade now extending throughout the entire Dominion. Mr. Hay manufactures all kinds of machine knives, for wood-working machines, leather splitting, paper cutting, etc. The quality of steel used by him is of the best, and the tempering and finish are unexcelled. His reputation in this respect throughout the Dominion is unexcelled. The premises occupied by him are 75x75 feet in dimensions and 2 stories in height, substantially built of stone, where employment is furnished to twelve competent and skillful workmen. For running the machinery there is a twenty-five horse power engine and one boiler. Mr. Hay is the only manufacturer in this line of goods west of Montreal, and his trade in consequence is very extensive throughout Ontario and the west. Mr. Hay is a native of Scotland, and inherits all the genuine traits of character inherent in the Scottish nature. He is a gentleman held in high esteem in the community.
